A new update from my living | Lampe Gras N214 and a side board

I think choosing the right lamps for your home can be a real struggle, it is all about finding a balance between creating atmosphere and having enough light when you want to read or work. I am not a fan at all of bright illuminated rooms and actually just love to only illuminated the corners together with some candles on the coffee table.

With the long sideboard I recently created along the wall in my living, the layout of the room changed as well. I just tried to ignore the television screen I still have and for the first time in years my couch is not standing along one of the longer walls or in front of the tv, which gives the room a more dynamic feeling. I love this sideboard to function as a little gallery of the things I love most at the moment, and above there are just the four shelves by Danish Menu and a one by one meter poster from Love warriors.

For years I had the same oversized desk lamps in my living and to be honest I got really tired of them, and from the moment the sideboard was finished I could imagine the Lampe Gras N214 I always had my eye on, but never knew where to use, in the far left corner. Isn't it a great feeling when you imagine something and it looks the way you saw the picture in your head !

Along with two other lamps, which I placed on the side board, pictures coming soon, there is a nice balance and the best thing of the Lampe Gras is that it can not only be used above the side board but as I placed it in the corner also can be turned and function for the smaller wall. Both the lamp and poster you see in the pictures are available online at the Couleur Locale web-store or in their physic stores in Knokke or Antwerp

Lampe Gras by DCW Editions - Paris
The Lampe Gras N214 wall lamp is designed by Bernard-Albin Gras, one of the most innovative designers of the 20th century and I first discovered the brand years ago in Paris during an inspiration trip. This lamp combines all the good things of a desk lamp and a wall lamp and attached to the wall it is a real space saver.

Early on Le Corbusier was seduced by the modern design and user-friendliness of the lamps and became one of Bernard-Albin Gras’s most enthusiastic supporters using the lamps in his own offices as well as employing them in numerous architectural projects all over the world. Next to the lamp you see in the pictures there are several other models to choose from, depending on where you want to use them, my next project will be to make a good lighting project for my kitchen, have a look at the whole light collection here

In addition new design collections in collaboration with established designers were presented in the industrial building, it was a pleasure to see them so well styled in this beautiful setup.

Go with the flow | My IBIZA travel tips

If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed me and a friend worked on Ibiza this month. We visited many locations, something we could perfectly combine with visiting some markets, breakfast in cute cafe's, lunch on the beach and drinks in some amazing gardens.

I have spent most Summers of my adult life with our family in Sardegna and Ibiza felt like home to me, I feel best in the south and in the sun, something
I really miss, I realized this month. I fell in love with the island and its laid back style and people, can you believe it was my first time visiting Ibiza!

A home and a car | Sunnycars
A home and a car! probably the two most important things you will need for your stay in Ibiza! We stayed at an old finca in the campo, far away from the party scene, where silence was only broken by the singing cicades and a sky full of stars illuminated the surroundings by night. An amazing place located more or less in the middle of nowhere with only a few coloured stones on the side of the road showing us where to leave the main road.

These are the places you can't really reach without a car and to be honest you really would need a car in Ibiza if you want to see more of the island then your hotel and the nearest beach and village. It's a relatively small island and within forty minutes you can drive from north to south and experience the party scene around Ibiza town or go for a more relaxed experience in the north, which was my favourite part.

Hiring a car online before your trip is really easy, and once landed at Ibiza airport it took us little time to pick up our car, throw our suitcases in the back and hit the road. The desk to pick up your car is in the same hall as where your luggage arrives.
For this trip we hired with Sunny cars and they provided us with an almost new car, completely insured, a filled tank and free to make as many kilometers we wanted. Practically we only had to fill the tank before bringing it back at the airport on the day of departure.

Whenever I travel I make a folder in Google maps with my favourite adresses, and places I want to visit, easy when you quickly have to find directions and a great travel 'book' for the next time. As promised I will share some of the beautiful beaches and places we visited with you, enjoy!

Babylon Beach bar | Santa Eulalila
After a few days of beach life a visit to Babylon Beach bar felt like pure luxury in an laid-back Ibiza style, soft beds by TineK home and cocktails and food served straight to your sun bed, just perfect if you are tired of lying on the beach. We combined this place with a day of work at Santa Eulalia, as we still wanted to catch some sun in the late afternoon, there is no beach here but there are two flying pontoons if you want to go in the water.

La Granja | Sant Mateu
La Granja is a private house and members club, in order to come to La Granja you would need to book a table for lunch or dinner. We were lucky to be invited for Friday drinks and spent the night around the pool in the garden that looked like a fairytale by night. It was such a pleasure to meet up with my friend Pablo here, who I hadn't seen since the Sunny Design tour two years ago. A great night with music and amazing fig cocktails.

Los Enamorados | Portinax

When driving up north Ibiza do not skip 'Los Enamorados', an initiative by ex-baseball player Pierre and Dutch Rozemarijn a former magazine editor. Los Enamorados is a restaurant, store, beach bar and hotel with nine rooms only. The staff is super friendly and there is a relaxing atmosphere, a great place to hang out and enjoy food and drinks.

I had the most amazing dish, maybe even the best of my whole stay, the 'Poki bowl' with Salmon, sushi rice, nori and other flavours. It's as the website says: an unpretentious place where you can hang out, be yourself and enjoy.

Raco Ibiza
We probably had our longest breakfast at Raco Ibiza and spend over two hours in the relaxing garden. Behind the palm trees a few guest rooms are situated around the pool, that is private and adult only during the week. There is a restaurant as well and Sunday's are for families, garden parties and dj's.

Hippie Market at San Joan
Sunday morning we spent at San Joan at the small and cozy hippie market at the main square near the church. A morning with music under the trees, craftsmen selling their work and lots of friendly encounters. I really loved Sant Joan, the market and the locals selling their fruits in the small streets around the church.

Giri Cafe | Sant Joan
Have a coffee at the small terrace of the Giri Cafe at the main square of Sant Joan and you are sitting front row to enjoy the music on Sunday morning. In the back of the cafe the garden offers lots of cozy corners including one for kids.

Giri Residence | Sant Joan
What you might not notice directly is that just behind the square and a few steps from the Giri cafe, the Giri Residence is located in one of the striking white buildings. We were invited to come in for a sneak peek and I just loved the patio.

Totally different and overlooking the Old Town and the Ibiza marina IZAKAYA presents a modern Japanese cuisine with South American influences.

Boho House Ibiza | Santa Eulalila
If you happen to be in Santa Eulalila, drop by at Boho House Ibiza, a small cafe with an industrial look and tasty fresh juices. I had a great risotto for lunch here, freshly prepared behind the bar by the super friendly staff.

Cala Gracioneta
Probably the beach I loved most, the small Cala Gracioneta beach is surrounded by pretty boat houses and the atmosphere is absolutely friendly and not to busy. 'Sa Bresca' is the small bar - restaurant on the beach, perfect for a paella lunch with your feet in the sand, wealways found a spot here without reservations.

Cala XularA beautiful hidden gem just of the road to Portinax only accessible by car after going down a small white road with limited parking space, at this beach people come and go and it was never overcrowded. There is a small restaurant on the beach, be sure to bring cash and reserve your spot!

Cala Conta beach
Located in the south, Cala Conta is known for it's amazing sunset. This beach was different from the others I visited, surrounded by sand dunes and rocky cliffs and a few small islands for the coast, there was a lovely soft sandy beach and crystal clear water. On top of the cliff  you will find 'Sunset Ashram'  a restaurant in pink stuc with a small shop.

Utopia - Playa Puerto San Miguel
Although it is said to be a hidden gem it can be found in most guides, Utopia is a small bay just of the main beach San Miguel... walk to the left of the beach and follow the signs and climb the rocky path leading you to a small beach and bar - restaurant The beach is really small with just a few beds, we had a lovely late lunch at the restaurant.

An apartment in a concrete silo by Arjaan De Feyter

Belgian architect Arjaan De Feyter designed this minimalistic concrete apartment in one of the by Axel Vervoordt coverted old silos at the Kanaal in Wijnegem, Belgium. An industrial dream space with exposed concrete floors, concrete plaster walls and brick structure.

Strolling through the article, found on Wallpaper, it were the many sightlines flowing from one room to another that caught my eye. I am not a particular fan of round spaces but I love how the custom made furniture and the carpet beautifully follows the lines of the building while linen curtains soften the space and some walls are build to, as the architect says, create the right visual pauses.

C-More Concept Store | Room for design

With a long Summer holiday in mind I made myself a promise, visiting my friends Conceptstore in Nijmegen was the number one thing I had to do as soon holidays took off. Since a few months Iris and Yske run their brand new C-More Conceptstore in the former Honing factory, a must visit if you are looking for new designer furniture, handmade goods, home accessories, fashion and lifestyle items or small gifts.

Within the large industrial space the work of young designers is showcased next to more established brands such as Loof and Fest Amsterdam. What makes C-More different is that they sell the designs and products directly from the designers, under the name 'Made in Nijmegen' they created a special section that offers a stage for Nijmegen designers. During the year different interior, lighting and colour workshops can be followed organised by the team next to guest work shops.

The Loft

In addition the store has created a Loft in the middle of the store that changes every three months, when I visited the different rooms were furnished with designs of, among others, LOOF, Don Zweedijk | The Possibility Collection [known by X-Bank] Stilst, JK Lomans, Angela Willemsen, Joost Seegers, Fest Amsterdam, Samsung and many more. Bathroom designers Jee-O build a complete bathroom for three months in between fairs, giving them the opportunity to bring their design under the attention of a different audience.

C-More is looking for new designers for LOFT | ROOM NO4. Are you a designer of special and beautiful interior and design items, furniture, fashion, interior accessories or jewellery and do want to sell your items in the conceptstore, you will find all info here.

A new AESOP Store in San Francisco | Tacklebox architecture firm

Love to share another Instagram find of mine today, Tacklebox is a brooklyn architecture firm with a portfolio that includes residential housing, retail, interior design, custom furniture, and product design. My eye caught the beautiful shelves at the Aesop store located on Jackson Street, in San Francisco’s historic waterfront district.

Whenever I am in Paris or Milan I have to visit one or more Aesop store's and same as for the Muji stores I have never understood why there are no stores in Amsterdam. That said and being a huge fan of Aesop and their beautiful and unique store concepts I had to find out more about the store and the design firm behind it. On their website many more projects and Aesop stores

Tacklebox: "In line with Aesop’s customary architectural approach – to work with what is already in place, weaving a discreet presence into the fabric of the locale – fault lines and natural rifts within the area’s geological timeframe were key influences, expressed through a prominent raked wall of plastered texture and form.

Bracing, stitching, and splicing the surface of the wall terrain, forty-one solid copper shelves bridge the in-between, bearing intended reference to the copper stills used to produce the whiskey in A.P Hotaling’s warehouse, once the West Coast’s largest whiskey repository.

This space is situated in one of a handful of structures that survived the 1906 earthquake and fire, owing to the quick-thinking firemen and hundreds of citizens determined to protect the stores of Hotaling’s Whiskey, an endeavor that fortuitously preserved the architecture of neighboring blocks."

AMBIENT LOUNGE | Soft furniture for interiors and outdoor

Co
Ambient Lounge recently asked me to make some images with their Twin Couch elements. I am always up for a collaboration and love to get to know new brands and especially one that I had not heard of before and launched an in Australia already classic light weight designer couch. Ambient Lounge is a global brand by awarded Australian designers who have successfully transformed the 'bean bag' chair into fashionable designer furniture and can be seen in numerous hotels, cinemas and galleries.

I guess we all grew up with the bean bag, and as a teenager I loved to throw myself on them. As an adult I am more into something I can actually sit on or perfectly lounge in, curled up with my laptop or a magazine. After unpacking the boxes it was easy to connect the three elements with the robust zippers and form a small couch without armrests, something I rather like actually! The pouf consist of two smaller elements and was even easier to connect, elements can also be used individually and more different elements are available to form different lounge area's.

Besides the Twin Couches a large collection of different seat bags for indoors, outdoors and even for pets is available at the Ambient Lounge webshop. I was surprised by the sitting comfort of the couch and have to agree that these bean bags are a paradigm shift in the evolution of soft furniture. Hotels, cafes, lifestyle retreats, residential projects, universities, modern libraries and cinemas all are spaces for Ambient Lounge®.
