Before order there is chaos. + Meet the blogger

It has been almost a week... And what a great week it was! I really apprecited attending the Meet the Blogger event this weekend. And I was truly impressed by the story Holly Becker shared with us on how she first started blogging to become the successful blogger and writer of  Decorate she is now.

I think most of us who attended the event are still a bit with their head in the clouds. It was just such an amazing weekend filled with inspiring moments and people. Meeting the faces behind the blogs you read, sharing cupcakes and white wine and getting to know new people and as Holly describes it ... walk away feeling confident and ready to take on the world!  {Read all about it here on Decor8 }

I also had a fellow blogger over at my place for the weekend. Beside attending the 'Meet the blogger' event we spent two days of wandering around the city, shopping, eating, flipping through books and magazines and talk a lot. As she brought me a poster from her concept store Bodie And Fou I decided to change things around  in my studio to give it a good home ;)   So here's the chaos before the order I hope to show you in my next post.

Kitchen inspiration

Left to right... 1: 'industrial looking table on the white floor (HK Living)2: This is just all perfect! (VT Wonen) 3: Some strong black elements and I love the white deck. .If I could I would make an iron framed kitchen wall (Jean-Marc Wullschlege) 4: The shelves are really cool with the black wall behind them.. and again a white floor. (?)

Saving pictures together in an album makes me realize what I really like.
My latest addiction is Printerest! I love my Pin It  button and when I see a picture I like it goes straight into my album. The pictures are all from my 'Kitchen inspiration' album and I think these are the kitchens I like most. Or have elements I like a lot!

Combining floors!  (Yves Bayard St Paul de Vence)
Another great kitchen with a light grey floor, I love the cabinets made out of reclaimed wood

This is a picture from a previous post I made about the home of Swedish Anders in Amsterdam.  AnoukB designed this wonderful place {More about it in this months Dutch magazine 101 woonideeen} Those who have seen my house might understand this picture is a great example for me When I walk from my living into my hall towards my kitchen  I look at this picture and imagine how my new and bigger kitchen could look like ;)

1 lamp + 3 rooms + Copenhagen

This Copenhagen Penthouse seems pretty perfect to me!
I love the contrast between Black & White
and how the same lamp comes back in all the rooms

Stefano Gaggero... {Italian designer and stylist}

Since using Facebook I have met some really nice people. One of them is Italian designer Stefano Gaggero. Now and then we have little chats in a mix of Italian and French about pictures, colours, atmospheres and people.

You might have noticed his work in this months UK edition of Elle decoration. In the 'Outside edge' article his steal planter 'Cage' is shown. Because I have seen many more of his beautiful design and styling, love his mood boards and....  because he worked with one of my favorite designers Paola Navone

I thought I should show some of his work here.

 Planter 'Cage'

About Stefano...
After having attended the school of Art, he chooses Milan to continue his studies in the design field. After having graduated in 1995 he works with architect Ferruccio Laviani taking care of the 'image' sector in stands, expositions and showrooms for groups such as DePadova, Ros, Kartell and Moroso. In 2002 he starts working for Paola Navona, leading researches about  'trends' style and materials.

Since 2006 he is a free lance consultant, stylist and designer. In collaborating with the Roma Group he desings an indoor -outdoor collection of vases. And in 2008 he designs
couch 'Orlando' for Vittorio Bonacina & C.Beside, with who he continues to work. A new chair called 'Cocotte' (2011) was just presented! In 2010 He also designs glass vases 'Reflet' and an outdoor bench system called 'Iles' for Arcade.

Bed 'Yves' designed by Stefano Gaggero for 'Dorlean bed'

I really love the bed he designed in collaboration with 'Dorelan Bed' (2010-2011). Stefano called it 'Yves' out of respect for Yves Saint Laurent. He also did the styling on the picture that will appear in their new catalogue. It makes me dream of France and I think it shows his search for the ultimate atmosphere in designing and styling very well.

Amazing Cupboard

I think this picture is so amazing!!  And I just would love to be able to make a cupboard like this.. If you made something like it please sent me links or teach me how to do it. I love the fact how the concrete floor is still visible... the shelf looks made of bleached wood. I don't need the house below where it is made but just this cupboard ... please

The Selby at my place

Last week the window display of the
American Book Center in Amsterdam was all about the  The Selby's  new book. {As you see it was kinda hard to make a picture of it with the sun beating the city!} I loved the little exhibition they made around the book and the posters that I could pick up later that week
So It's the Selby at my place today! Well more or less of course...

I hope to meet some of you there at the ABC during the first Meet the blogger event for (home) design and lifestyle bloggers in about ten days!!! The window will then be decorated by Holly of decor8 who will be signing her book 'Decorate' that same day

On the pictures below some of the mess I created last weekend whilst taking off wallpaper

Imperfection in North London

Jimmie Karlsson's home
Today I have been working on a previous bedroom.... I steamed of some old wallpaper and tomorrow I will take out the old floorboards. Then next week I hope to get a plan from a friend of mine. She is an architect and is making me a 3D simulations of how it would look if I knock out the wall between this room and the kitchen. Just for fun because we're friends ;) I have no idea what to expect but of course also in this kitchen to be I want to expose some concrete or some other raw and unfinished item. Because that is just me and how I love to live in my house!

I haven't decided yet if it will be the wall or rather the floor. But some ideas are spinning around in my head and one of those is maybe using boards... I know these pictures, photographer Birgitta Wolfgang Drejer made in Jimmie Karlssons house in London have been showed on many blogs already but I still think I should show them because they fit my ideas of decorating so well.

Although I always thought the boards in Jimmie home were painted with blackboard and written on. They are made with graffiti-inspired wallpaper  from Jimmie Martin & McCoy. I just love the imperfection theme!

{More boards}

 Although I love the graffiti boards more this is a nice option too.  (House Doctor)

And for a totally different effect I could always use my Piet Hein Eek wallpaper.

Paris {as you never looked at it before}

If I had to name one thing I like doing most whilst being in Paris.... it is exactly that what Nichole Robertson of the Little brown pen  does!  The French have a word for what we do: flâner. It means to stroll with no destination in mind, simply for the pleasure of it.  There is nothing better then 'getting lost in Paris... wander around from one square to another... walking down all the way the avenue's with those beautiful names... discovering unknown places and seeing a sunset at the Seine river.

Nichole (an American who lives in the US and lived in Paris for a year with her husband) says their photographs are a record of the serendipitous discoveries they find by getting lost in Paris This is the way we see Paris: Pops of color against a backdrop of worn grays, weathered whites and muted browns. We love how seemingly unrelated details around the city with a similar palette play off of each other and tell a story. Seeing the pictures it makes me wanna pop on a train and just wander around for a while... Check out Nicholes Etsy shop for many more pictures.

Those who have been here before know I love to make little collages with pictures and frames of things and people I love. I have them all around the house..and you might have seen them before here and here in my studio. Or seen them pasted on the wall here and here on my blackboard in the hallway. And I love these old black and white pictures from family vacations in France.

I used to stick pictures on the wall with painters tape but I really loved the one Karine of Bodie and Fou used when she made a collage of her family {and I love the fact she also thinks family is important ... so I 'stole' her quote for this blog post title!} In her lounge she used black Japanese masking tape. Recently I made a new collage myself in the hallway chez moi, inspired by Karine's family board, and used aqua blue tape to give it a summer feeling.... Here is an impression and.... on the last picture a little birthday message for my son who has his birthday today!

Gefeliciteerd!

Birthday boy ... On the right top of the collage a picture of my firstborn and myself. (yes there is the eighties look again )  Today it is his birthday.... no more toys and children parties for him... but a birthday party with friends at a sunny island  this year Happy Birthday!

Sourced & Sold Industrial furniture

If you love industrial furniture, this little store in the heart of Amsterdam will make your heart beat faster. I have been wanting to make pictures in this store from the moment I first discovered it...When I passed the shop some weeks ago I was so happy to see it open and having my camera with me.

Sourced & Sold is filled with beautiful and well restored pieces. This is the place where you will find the aluminum Emeco Navy chairs. French Lockers, lamps and suitcases. And very important, I think.... a shop owner who knows what he is selling, loves to tell you about it and has a true passion for every little piece in his store. It was great to meet and chat with Jeroen, the owner and discover we thought the same about many things. I hope the pictures will bring over what a great shop this is, enjoy!
Sourced & Sold
Eerste Tuindwarsstraat 16  - Amsterdam

Sourced & Sold staat vol prachtige gerestaureerde stukken. Dit is 'the place to be' voor antieke aluminum Emeco Navy chairs, Franse lockers, lampen en geweldige koffers.
