Pizza and wine at the home of Paola Navone

While visiting Milan earlier this month I was invited at the home of Paola Navone for a private party to celebrate the launch of the new wallpaper collection she and Daniel Rozensztroch's (art director of Merci) designed in cooperation with NLXL. Have a look at this previous blogpost to get a sneak peek of the collection. During design week Paola styled the collection on the ground floor of her studio in zona Tortona, more on that next time, but first lets go upstairs!

By Lassen SS2015 | New collection

Aesthetes with a sense for the small details will love Stropp, a minimalistic leather strap strap that makes storage a bit more beautiful. I love how in the picture above different coloured straps are combined with new copper mirror 'view'. With it's 5mm frame and matte surface this mirror is another minimalistic item of the new SS2015 collection.

Icelandic jewellery & ceramic | Meeting with the president of Iceland

With this last blogpost I am closing my Iceland trip, I fell in love with this country and hope to come back for next year's DesignMarch or maybe even earlier and experience this magical country during Summer! To find out more about Iceland design and designers, you can find all blogposts under the hashtag #designmarch

Welcome to the extraordinary | DesignMarch X Blue Lagoon

The rest of the week will be pretty much all about travelling, I have seen so many nice projects in Milan that I can't even decide what to show or not on the blog.....but first I still got some things to share with you in two blogposts today, from my trip to Iceland, where I was on invitation of DesignMarch, I met so many nice people, cool and authentic Icelandic designers, seen beautiful snowy mountains and got a sneak peek in some private homes. I am still thinking almost every day about this wonderful country and I have not even seen most of it! Somehow I felt so at home and I can't really explain why.

Bathroom dreams in Black & White | Favourites from

Over the last few months I have written several times about my bathroom dreams and the 'wow' factor I am looking for. Renovating my home and finding beautiful concrete walls under layers of wallpaper and the use of large amounts of white paint really helped me to refine my taste over the last few years and transform my home in what it is today.

MINDCRAFT15 X GamFratesi | Milan designweek | Fuorisalone 2015

MINDCRAFT15 the exhibition curated by GamFratesi at Chiostro Minore di San Simpliciano in Milan this year got a special mention at the Milano Design Awards for the extraordinary visual impact, generated from an essential but courageous project, that creates a dialogue in harmony with the unique and suggestive context.

Absolutely one of the most beautiful exhibitions of Milan design week, the yearly festival for design lovers that I visited this last week: 5 days of design, sun, food and friends and lots of inspiration that I hope to share with you on the blog. Have a look at the MINDCRAFT website for more information about the curated designers like Louise Campbell, Ole Jensen and more.

Inspiration for your home | B&W photography X Natural colours

Last week I showed you some spring inspiration using the latest items of the new Couleur Locale collection, did you love those pictures as much as I do?

Natural colours are great to add a beautiful touch to your home and adding texture make your home look even more exciting. I love those unexpected corners with different layers and unique items from far away countries. Cushions you just need to touch, beautiful ceramics and some black and white photography to add some contrast.

Great styling and photography can really make an ordinary chair look almost perfect. These pictures of the ESBJÖRN chair with padded upholstery are found on IKEA Livet Hemma. In my opinion one of the best sites to get some inspiration with IKEA furniture.

Vinyl records and modern record players | Let's talk about music

Let's talk about music... and vinyl! I still got nearly all my vinyl records, maybe even more cd's and of course music on my phone for on the go! I believe our records tell us who we are and where we stand for, I grew up with Pink Floyd and me and my best friend used to close the curtains and listen to her brothers records in the dark, we thought it was a kind of scary music, but later on I started to really appreciate it... and many more! I was in love with David Bowie, T Rex and the Sweets... but also Lou Reed and Led Zeppelin used to be one of my favourites. I still love Bowie, and many other and newer bands!

Shopping downtown Reykjavik | DesignMarch 2015

Between exhibitions and openings there was some time to discover some of Reykjaviks best fashion and concept stores downtown. I found the Eyland flagshipstore, after seeing a catalog at Suit. In case you did not read my former Iceland post |Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2015 | Cocktail dresses & white sneakers| the main inspiration for Eyland is the Tomboy and for the AW15 collection there's a little flirt with the 70s glam rock.

TIIPOI and The super normal

While in London I visited Tiipoi, a London based lifestyle brand founded 2 years ago by Spandana Gopal. The brand believes in a common sense attitude to consumption; an all encompassing design ethos of the Indian subcontinent – where nothing is wasted and where innovation and improvisation come from the lack of something rather than an excess of it.

Through Tiipoi, Spandana wants to engage a wider audience with concepts of good materials and astute ergonomics as part of daily life – something she feels has always existed in India, but has somehow been overlooked. “Rather than say, I am creating contemporary Indian design, which I may or may not be doing, I am going back and looking at where Indian design already exists in the everyday. To me, good design is invisible to the eye – it’s taken for granted because it’s so effective".

The Super normal
Before our visit we were asked to sent in a picture of something super normal, an object we use in our daily life and really love, I sent in the bottle with a piece of black charcoal, a simple and beautiful object. Tiipoi printed out our pictures and placed them on the wall where their design was on display.

The idea was based on the 2006 Tokyo exhibition of Super Normal objects, curated by Jasper Morrison and Naoto Fukasawa. They brought together designs which, in a contemporary context, have become somewhat invisible or ‘atmospheric’; possessing intuitive qualities these objects have unconsciously evolved to be at the centre of our daily lives.

INNSIDES launches Milan

How do you like these pictures! Some time ago Studiopepe worked with Ivano Redaelli to interpret their brand image by creating evocative visuals and product images for a catalogue that explored various types of style and the different worlds associated with them.

I selected this project from the many designers & projects shown in the new Milan section on Innsides, a platform that shows top-notch interior designers and their projects.

Some time ago we celebrated the Copenhagen launch and I showed you some great projects in
this post. With the Salone del Mobile only one week away, I thought it was a great moment to introduce you to one of the Milan design studio's.

Studio Pepe
Studiopepe is a design studio founded in Milan in 2006. Arianna Lelli Mami and Chiara Di Pinto, founders and creative directors of Studiopepe, are both graduates from the Politecnico di Milano. Beginning from solid interior design experience and the strong emotional value of their eclectic design research, Studiopepe has carried out styling projects and iconographic shoot concepts for major international magazines.

For each client Studiopepe develops a made-to-measure approach based on observation, analysis, and intuition, taking care over every aspect of the project: from developing the image to advising on the concept and catalogue style, and designing showrooms, site-specific installations, and design events.

“Our philosophy is based on a conceptual approach inspired by the unexpected, and on an extensive iconographic and visionary background, generating results that are unique of their kind. Our attention to details, and the emotion they can generate in people, is fundamental in our projects”

This beautiful rug is handmade by female artisans from Kathmandu, Nepal for Felt ball rug. I first spotted the rugs at the library near my home, where a really large and colourful rug makes a cozy play and reading corner for the smallest children.

OrriFinn | Tools a performance

Saturday morning in Reykjavik, I plannend to visit some of the black beaches together with some other bloggers and journalists, but during the night the weather became that bad, that in the morning everyone was advised to not go outside... so we stayed in the hotel, I had a long breakfast and plannend in some blogposts. In the afternoon the wind was gone, we went for some lunch and shopping and met up with the rest of the group at the opening of 'Tools' by OrriFinn, an exhibition at their workshop.

While tools are normally used for certain goals, the ORRI FINN designers made a collection of jewellery pieces that are replica of chosen tools  some that relate to certain professions, others that are necessary in our everyday lives. I
photographed the workshop where their pieces were on display but also beautiful captured on photo. At the same time the collection and a large skull was presented at Mýrin

Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2015 | Cocktail dresses & white sneakers

In my first blogpost about Iceland and my my visit to DesignMarch 2015 |read it here if you missed it| I talked about on how Sari and Birta organised things for us and I really loved all the effort they took in personalising the tour for all journalists from different countries. It is so much easier if people who know the country and it's design point out the best places for you. So A big thank you to them!

Shopping online for new pillows | Spring solutions

Like I mentioned before, the Icelandic Natura hotel was a real treat and inspired me to set myself a new goal for Spring: shop for new bed linen, pillows and maybe even a new bed! It was time to put those words into action and I decided to start by buying some new bed pillows.
I love lazy mornings and on Sundays I always take the opportunity to stay in bed a bit longer and do some work on the laptop. I prefer white bedlinen, I tried to put back my dark grey duvet covers this winter, but quickly changed back to white, and I love an extra blanket and different cushions... but after using them for some time now, they have become a bit old and I thought why not try to order some new cushions online.

Ordering online is something I don't do very often but I thought I should give it a go and had a look at the different options at The whole process was quite easy to be honest. There are 5 filters to help to find your favourite type of pillow, like brand or material. I simply started by searching for a synthetic pillow as they are my favourite. From there I filtered by size, type of sleeper and softness.... I went for a medium/firm pillow (Cinderella New Classic medium/firm hoofdkussen) which turned out to be great for lazy Sunday mornings as well, as they're firm enough to stand up straight, offering plenty of back support. I think the best part of this experience was being able to save time and money by not have to go in to town or to our Swedish friend.

Music on Portobello road | New B&O Play headphones

London has always been one of my favourite cities, and being back in town after many years brought back so many memories of early 2000 meetings with friends, seeing new bands in little concert venues, and long nights at Saturday night rockclub Decadence in Dean Street.

When having a few hours off, Linda and me took the subway to Camden town and had a walk around, I bought some posters... that I forgot at the airport but look great in the pictures! And how do you like this book
with old street style pictures of Portobello road that I found in the apartments bookcaseWe had some Asian food at Camden stables market and a drink at World's end before heading back downtown... had forgotten about that spiral staircase to be honest!

For me London is all about music and I am glad we had some B&O Play headphones to listen to music in and outside our apartment on Portobello road, a lively area with many small cafe's for delicious coffee's and a supermarket around the corner for wine and late night snacks for fun nights in. We always love to stay up late, to catch up with each other and listen to some music out of the speakers we picked up during a visit at B&O in London earlier that week.

An afternoon at LIBERTY London

An afternoon with Head of Design of Liberty Art fabrics Emma Mawston, her colleague, delicious scones, my first ones ever!, and coffee and tea. They gave us an insight into the inspiration and symbolism of their Secret Garden collection, named after the classic novel, and the process of creating it. Meeting the designers and seeing how they design and hand colour every little detail by hand was quite impressive.

Liberty wallpaper at the design studio's wall
Seeing the detailed original drawings and the corresponding fabric made makes you realize the amount of work involved in the collection. I framed a copy of one of the designed details to give you an impression of the work that's involved. At the {at}mine blog you can read more about our visit to this iconic store that was part of our day with {at}mine
