Inspiration for your home | Organize your office with Design letters

As a child I always loved the moment I could shop new school goodies at the special 'back to school' corners at major department stores. School is definitely over for me, long time ago but I still love some good stationary and office pieces.

Danish Design letters may be best known for their series with the 1937 hand drawn typography by Architect Arne Jacobsen, with Design Letters & Friends they recently launched several new products and I really like the minimal 'Black Paper shelf" It looks perfect for a small home office, bathroom or the kitchen. The white shelves floats freely from the back of the shelf and works optically as a line on a piece of paper and I particularly like the black back that makes everything stand out really beautiful.
More news for fans of black and white, on the desk one of the new notebooks with numbers Arne Jacobsen draw for the Aarhus City Hall. there are more black books with white words like 'brainstorm', 'sketchbook' and a weekly planner that could be really useful to plan your blogposts and a new 'calendar 2016' in beautiful black, available from September at Design letters and friends and over 700 stores in 27 different countries.

Malene Birger for New Works

I have been saving this workspace image on my desktop for some time now and after receiving some pictures of the new cushions, plaids and candle holders Malene Birger designed for New Works, I think I found the perfect mood to combine with.

Although I love to stay in Summer mood forever... and I am still working on my patio, I noticed the first leaves touching the ground already, and it feels like
bringing in some darker colours for autumn soon. Yesterday I posted a slightly etnic autumn vibe for your home, and this season I might like some real dark blue in combination with black and greys and maybe even use some beautiful Bauwerk paint to bring in this cozy dark feeling.

Last year I bought a metal tray for my kitchen table and placed lots of candles on it to bring some really needed warmth into my kitchen. This autumn I will try to find a small wood-burner to improvise and play with, any suggestions are welcome! What will you change at your own home now autumn approaches?

Dutch Design week 2015 | Lidewij Edelkoort X Kazerne

This weekend I visited Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven and with the Limburg Design tour and a trip to Norway shortly before that, I had no time to look into the program at all and was really happy to be asked to be one of the Dutch design week 2015 bloggers. I couldn't be more happier as with that came a fully day program made by Willemijn de Wit & Ulrike Jurklies of Dutch Design Week, thank you girls!

My day started with a meetup in the press room and a tour through Yksi by one of the founders Leonne Cuppen, t
he Yksi foundation is dedicated to Dutch Design with as parts Yksi Expo and the Yksi online shop. For DDW the work of young, recently graduated talents and established designers were presented, next to the colourful #Orchids installation by Ulrike and Willemijn that showed the process of lost and mourning.

I loved the examples of social design and their work, and was happy to see also Pols Potten was part of that exhibition. Find my favourites of Yksi and the other exhibitions I visited at my DDW Pinterest album

On the blog I love to show you some of my favourites as well and I loved visiting Kazerne an amazing concept that opened in October 2014 where the world of art, design, knowledge and technique comes together with good food and drinks in a former military police barracks and adjoining warehouse.

The industrial character of the building, the black chairs by Maarten Baas, the customized tables, the art installations and exhibition '
Open Endedby Lidewij Edelkoort, together with the enthusiasm and sparkle in the eye of Annemoon Geurts who is one of the initiators of the concept together with Koen Rijnbeek, made visiting the Kazerne the highlight of my day.

At Kazerne they bring art and design together, you eat surrounded by design, and I had a great lunch together with Annemoon Geurts and Wendy from Beeldsteil getting really distracted by all the beauty I saw and the idea there was so little time to really absorb it all and make millions of pictures. Next year you can also sleep in their new to open Boutique hotel at Kazerne.

Eigen Huis & Interieur was present at Kazerne with an exhibition by Piet Paris. Find my favourites of Dutch Design week at my DDW Pinterest album and enjoy the pictures of 'Open Ended' and Kazerne. I will definitely be back here!

At home with Michael Verheyden | Limburg Design

"Passionate about rock music, but probably also inspired by silence" A beautiful quote I keep seeing when it comes to Michaël Verheyden and his work. Maybe it is the silence he loves, calmness is what I noticed last week when being invited at the home he and his wife Saartje Vereecke live and work.

vtwonen & designbeurs X #QAZQAQUEST2016

Remember the Qazqa Quest I wrote about last month when I showed you some new pictures of my home? I was pleasantly surprised to see Qazqa used my picture styling from last year on the cover of their catalogue. Although I blog for nearly eight years, I still find it super 'weird' to see people looking at a picture or article I made and I was quite honoured to see many people walking around with the catalog.

If you are a designer you can still join the Qazqa Quest At the website you can see the first collaborations and find all info on how to participate, you can sent in your sketches or worked out design till November 13 2015!

You can also nominate a designer for the Qazqa Quest and when participating, you have the chance to win one of the Qazqa designer lamps, like lamp 'Drip', pictured above, a beautiful new design lamp by Designerduo Boxtel & Buijs and inspired on the effect of a drip falling on the water.

Follow the unique Qazqa Quest on social media via #QAZQAQUEST2016

TRAVEL | Norway in a nutshell X Fjordtrip

Words, nor pictures can really describe the beautiful day I had visiting the Fjords. As I child I loved to draw and after learning about and viewing pictures of the Fjords and the Vikings, I drawed mountains and Viking boats on the water for ages. The Norway in a Nutshell (simply showing you some of the best parts Norway has to offer) was definitely something I loved to experience.

TRAVEL | Det Lille Kaffekompaniet X A fairytale walk in the woods

We discovered the probably cutest little coffee spot in Bergen after a trip up to Mount Fløyen with the handy Bergen Card. Departing from a small station about five minutes from our hotel the funicular railway brought us to the top of the mountain and we had a beautiful 45 minutes walk downstairs through the wood.

TRAVEL | Old meets new in central Bergen

I have been away for a few trips over the last two weeks... the first was not that far, it brought me to Belgium, and turned out to be a surprising design tour and meet ups with several designers together with a small group of five bloggers. After that I went back to Amsterdam and headed straight to the airport for my next trip to Bergen Norway to meet up with my friend Anouk B at Bergen Designstory

TRAVEL | Autor rooms | A four room hotel in the centre of Warsaw

Four rooms in 4 – star standard, furnished slightly eclectically with great attention to detail, I was really impressed with the picture above showing one of the rooms for rent at Autor rooms in Warsaw, Poland. Autor Rooms is something more than a hotel. It is an elaborate concept build with help of people from different disciplines who helped in making the Autor rooms vision of a perfect stay in Warsaw happen.

Restaurant de Tropen | Piet Boon design Studio

If you are a regular reader of my other blog Amsterdam Next you might have seen Amsterdam Oost's latest hotspot Restaurant 'De Tropen' at one of Europe’s leading ethnographic museums 'Het Tropenmuseum'. The interior of 'De Tropen' is designed by Studio Piet Boon, designer of restaurant 'The Jane' in Antwerp, I still regret I couldn't accept the invitation for the opening dinner at this awarded restaurant, read about The Jane here | Fine dining meets Rock 'n Roll |

VT Wonen Home | vtwonen & Design beurs 2015

Like many previous years the home made by the stylists and editor of vtwonen magazine dominated one of the halls at the vtwonen & Designfair (previously called woonbeurs) This home is always one of my favourites and I loved the industrial character on the ground floor with a huge industrial iron facade, the dark wood and the industrial pieces in combination with lots of plants ceramic and velour couches and benches in beautiful colours. Scroll down for more pictures and a video of this year's vt wonen home.

Heal's London | A big thank you!

This year has been a lot about travelling and discovering design around Europe with trips to Iceland, Paris and Milan, a Spanish design tour *wish I could travel back in time* and of course one of the blogtours earlier this year with our team that brought me back to London after many years.

I am so grateful I can travel because of my work on the blog, and get invited to beautiful events and designtours around Europe. I really love you for reading and visiting my blog and even leaving a comment now and then, because without you it would never have happened! Sending you a big hug... THANK YOU so much!

Chic Boutiquers at Home | A new book by Ellie Tenant

Did you ever noticed the 'Media' section on my blog, it is a summery of some publications and some books my blog or home was featured in over the last years. It is a great way for me to remember all these beautiful mentions and to show some of the things I worked on with magazines, photography and styling projects and the book we made.

PROJECTS | Villa Arena Storefront styling

Being on the look for a big kitchen table for ages it was love at first sight when I discovered this beauty at Villa ArenA. Last month I showed you my moodboard and a sneak peek of the items I selected for the window display I designed, and today I can finally show you the result.

TRAVEL | Music Essentials by Bolia X And a Weekend bag by HOPE

When travelling I always try to have a short break after a busy day just before dinner, a comfortable hotel room of course is really important but I am not at all into televisions and hardly never put them on, instead I love to listen to some music, read some mails or do some writing in advance.

Paris design week | Visiting Mad et Len

Being a huge Mad et Len fan for some time, visiting their temporary showroom during Paris Designweek was one of the only wishes I had while traveling to Paris last month... looking at the one or two products I can find in Amsterdam and writing a blogpost about Mad et Len with some borrowed product pictures does not even come close to the heaven I found in Paris.

MEDIA | Libelle magazine | Minimalism isn't boring

In the Netherlands, October is know as the 'Woonmaand' it's the month of the vtwonen & Design fair, and magazines are paying lots of attention to the home and home decoration in general. Many stores launch extra catalogues with cozy autumn homes and the first Christmas mails are hitting my mailbox already.

Multifunctional wall desk in black | Norm Architects for MENU

I came across this multifunctional wall desk by Norm Architects for Menu, a great example of a small piece of furniture that can be used for different occasions, I like this tiny hallway concept in the picture above but it can also be used as a small desk to work on. I think there might be a nice hidden compartiment also for electricity, not sure about it but I noticed a cable coming out of an opening in the wall desk, available via Menu

Minimal Magazine rack | AD Design

Instagram is such a great medium don't you think, I love to discover new people to follow and when new followers turn out to be great photographers, or designers or simply inspire me with their style. When Alvaro liked one of my pictures and started following me I discovered his work and had a look at his website to see his other work.

Alvaro Díaz Hernández is an interior designer, currently studying Industrial design, and specializing in furniture design. I selected three of his products because I love how you can use your imagination and interpreted them as you wish, and I think they are also great styling objects!

What is your favourite? Mine is the wall magazine holder, it reminds me of the ladder I used some to hang my magazines. See this old post here | 2 concrete bulbs + a ladder makes a loft | I still don't get this tiny sheepskin on my floor then! Are you on
instagram .... I would love you to follow me.

vtwonen & design fair 2015

Good evening! It has been a busy week, I plannend to make some blogs about the vtwonen & design fair, but actually I didn't find any free time to write anything at all. With three halls this years fair was just big enough, I had a look at the design hall with the huge stand of Eigenhuis & Interieur together with MTC where I loved playing with the mirrors but spent most time at the hall where the vtwonen home was located.

We build our spot in the garden of the vtwonen home on Monday afternoon in one of the tents provided by Combitex, a wonderful lively spot! Although I was only present a few times, I  saw some pretty nice interaction at our booth during the different styling workshops.

Greens were present at many stands but the vtwonen garden and terrace with several food-trucks and our blogger spot was one huge green area, visitors kept asking us about the air plants and the really small succulents in our stand by Wildernis Amsterdam and no dull moment for Ogreen either, on the last day of the fair, informing visitors about their concept. Have a look at this Facebook album I created to see an impression of my week, and expect some different posts in the coming days of what really caught my eye!
