BOFFI Studio | Store opening Rotterdam

When in Milan for the Salone and Milan Design week, Boffi Solferino is always on my 'must visit' list and this year was no exception, I always enjoy wandering through the huge building, watching the beautiful products and styling Boffi is known for. Back in the Netherlands I was invited to attend the opening of a brand new Boffi Studio last week, and it was great to see the Boffi concept coming alive in the new store, at the Rotterdam Blaak district.

Up in the sky by Rossana Orlandi | Milan design week 2016

Up In the Sky is the first public interior project curated by Rossana Orlandi and it took place in one of the exclusive penthouses of the Residences designed by Daniel Libeskind at CityLife, something totally different to go see whilst being in Milano where normally a visit to Galleria Rossana Orlandi is on the list. It has become quite common nowadays, to bring different brands together in an apartment like setting, often with a fictive person in mind who lives there.

The apartment curated by Rossana Orlandi showed a mix of elements of industrial design by the most cutting edge brands together with pieces of designers from the selection of Galleria Rossana Orlandi like Os and Oos, Matteo Casalegno, Jacopo Foggini, Nika Zupanc, Nacho Carbonell, Oskar Zieta, Erik Olovson and Kyuhyung Cho, Laurence Humier, Umzikim, Hillsideout, Germans Ermics and many others. I only know a few of those names but I will let the pictures speak, let me know what you think, more about the gallery can be found on Rossana Orlandi's website.

Denmark goes Milan Design Week | MUUTO

Celebrating their 10th anniversary Muuto presented their new collection at the Salone in a beautiful grey and white stand. What caught my eye was the new PLY rug collection in a mix of soft colours, in combination with black and white tones, and the different 'Framed mirrors' as seen in the picture above and below.

There is also a small lamp 'Lean wall lamp' in the picture below and I found the black version in the catalog, another favourite that would look good as a bedside lamp also, in the last picture you will find another new lamp, the 'control' lamp which has a dimmer, something I really like personally.

I really loved the well balanced colour scheme in the stand especially the many greens, like the comfortable sofa in the last picture by Anderssen & Voll and the little pink. More info about the new collection at the Muuto website and some more inspiration which I liked, based on natural colours here

Denmark goes Milan Design week | MENU

I only spent one afternoon at the actual Salone this year that with over 20 halls filled with design is impossible to do in one day and to be honest not my favourite place to be during Milan design week when over 1500 installations and exhibitions in town are fighting over my agenda already. Somehow I was less focused on brands and their new collections this year but more on installations, furnished apartments, and special events. Today I will cover some Danish brands I visited at the fair... so stay tuned for more, and who knows what brings tomorrow once I went through my pictures.

Sharing an apartment with four Dutch girls, all bloggers and my friend Allan from Bungalow5 was fun, we had a brilliant time and stayed for 6 days, to see as much as possible, walk way to much, and enjoy the city, it's bars and restaurants and each others company. I love to hang out with laid back people who are dedicated to design but not obsessed to see everything, as I know it is impossible and you will always miss things.... plus getting some sun and coffee on a terrace is really important as well.

Inspiration for your home | Decorating with greens

If you like to add some natural home deco to your home without buying lots of plants, Eco Deer might just be the thing for you! Inspired by the small deer antlers on wood, and in love with the modern tropical trend in design, Kate created Eco Deer as a botanical wall vase for everyone who loves plants.

The minimalistic handmade board is manufactured in a small workshop in Ukraine, using solid eco wood and applying manual processing. The boards are presented in raw wood, classic black, Scandinavian white, trendy mint, and pink. I thought they were really pretty and hope you got inspired as much as I was after seeing them.

A South African family home

When you are reading this I am visiting Milan designweek, and the one thing me and the Dutch friends I travel with are all hoping for is to catch some sun! No lack of sun shining into this family home in South Africa with it's beautiful colour scheme, lots of white with some black and natural timber and rotan accents, just the way I love to 'dress' my home for summer.

Stone X Earth | Ceramic collection by July Adrichem

When looking at ceramic I always feel a need to touch and this collection by Julie was no exception when meetin her at the Elle Inside design festival in Amsterdam some time ago. Designed with a hint of elegance and a classic twist the stone collection is inspired by grey coloured river-stones, the matte outside of the Stone collection feels soft and at the same time strong while the inside feels smooth.

Remy Meijers X Gelderland | New collection 2016

Leading up to IMM2016 I had the pleasure of working with Dutch company Gelderland and visit their showroom and factory where I got a sneak peek of the new collection. Just like previous years, Gelderland presented their new collection during the IMM 2016 in Cologne, where I visited their new spot at Design Post

Remy Meijers is one of Gelderland's newest designers and is known for his sober and serene interiors, he loves how the company allows designers full control over every single detail when it comes to the execution of their designs, and in turn Gelderland loves the no-nonsense look of Remy's designs. For Gelderland Remy has designed a new dining room chair and table and a series of couches in different sizes, materials and a variety of beautiful greyish and brown tones, and oozes sober luxury.

The newly designed coffee table by Remy Meijers, is available in two sizes and has a playful accent in the tabletop, just my thing as it is perfect to frame a small collection. In the first place, Remy is an interior designer, and both his current and previous collections allow him to add an extra layer to his work.

In addition to the new collection, some classics have been added to the collection on display in Cologne: 'Small Square', Roderick Vos' famous solid oak side tables, are now available in a dark wood version. The side tables were originally made in a light oak colour, and come in six different models, inspired by Chinese characters.

To celebrate Gelderlander's 80 year anniversary, the 'Armchair 400' by Jan des Bouvrie is being re-released, with a few small updates. Originally, the 'Armchair 400' was a 70's design by Jan des Bouvrie, a designer who has been with Gelderlander for 35 years, and is responsibly for many of the classics. See the whole collection here at Gelderland

Amazing Bed and Breakfast on the Swedish countryside

Catching a glimpse of this concrete space and recognizing the hand of Marie Ollson was all it took for me to fall in love with this home and Bed and Breakfast. Marie and her husband worked for over a year to renovate this old farm on the Swedish countryside into an amazing Bed and Breakfast for the couple that lives here.

What we see is a raw concrete space with warm wooden elements and a bit of 'French' drama.
I really love this kind of atmosphere and Marie's way of decorating with huge objects just like we see in her own home. I can only imagine the look from the windows after some snow has fallen... and I still want those daybeds!

5 new IKEA collections | Vitality launch event at X Bank Amsterdam

Based on craft and natural materials glass designer and ceramist Ingegerd Råman designed the 'VIKTIGT' collection for IKEA. Traveling to Vietnam she learned how to work with materials such as bamboo and waterhyacint and thinking on what she would need for herself, she designed a collection of different pieces.

For me personally it was the collection I felt most connected with out of the 5 collections presented during the IKEA vitality launch event the other day at X BANK. A night where the different designers were present to tell the story behind their design collaboration with IKEA and we got to see the new collections.

I was really curious to see the 'Viktigt' collection I have my eyes on for my patio and try out the furniture of which most is produced by local craftsmen in Vietnam. Next to the black chair and bench, which is really comfortable, the collection consist of several baskets, two different dining chairs, stools, a beautiful lamp, plant hangers, glassware and a black and white dinner set... I want it all! Viktigt will be available in stores from May 2016 as a limited edition

Other collections presented were those of fashion designers Katie Eary, GILTIG and Walter Van Beirendonck, GLÖDANDE, Tanya Long showed her picture for the IKEA Art  event 2016. New also is ANVÄNDBAR, an IKEA collection that takes a hands-on approach to a sustainable life at home and make it easy to do at least one small thing every day that is good for the planet. Available from April 2016 as limited editions.
