IKEA 2017 catalogue launch event

In the middle of a cold and wet cornfield IKEA celebrated the launch of their 2017 catalogue. With a focus on living in and around the kitchen not only did we get a sneak peek of some new kitchen design and utilities but also food itself during lunch, like some of the new sandwiches that can be found in the restaurants soon.

For the first time the catalogue will be presented in a magazine format with editorial content and design encouraging people to be happy and themselves in their homes. New collaborations include the Eindhoven-based design duo Truly Truly who designed a huge chair build out of different cushions for the IKEA PS 2017 collection (available from March 2017).

Piet Hein Eek talked us through the first pieces of the JASSA collection (mid 2017 in stores) made out of durable and robust rattan. Together with the creative team of IKEA he traveled to Indonesia to get familiar with the traditional techniques, I haven’t seen these first pieces myself as we didn’t got the time to see everything but they looked really prommising. The collection will also include Scandinavian textiles for interior and exterior. The cooperation between the Dutch designer and IKEA will continue with a limited design collection INDUSTRIELL in 2018.
