IMM2016 | Italian classics and bentwood favourites

Last weekend I had a quick visit to IMM Cologne, I never visited before and on invitation of Thonet I had the possibility to go back and forth on one day, a great way to get a first impression! Thonet’s stand was our meeting point for the day, showcasing most of the new in and outdoor collection I talked about before in this post Thonet factory tour. We also had a visit at Design Post of which you will find some impressions off in my previous post post.

It was great to have a look at several of my favourite Scandinavian brands, did you see my post about the black on black String booth? I enjoyed to wander around a bit and also enjoyed to see some Italian classics at the other halls making me wish I had a living room that is 4 times bigger, it is a bit hard to make really nice pictures at events like this because the light is pretty bad at most of the booths, nevertheless
I love to give a small impression with Iphone shots of some of my favourites at the end of this post.

But first I love to show you this new table by Dutch designer Jorre van der Ast for our host of the day Thonet.

Jorre van Ast for Thonet | Table 1060
After studying Industrial Product Design at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the the RCArt in London Jorre van Ast started working as independent product designer at the OKAY studio, a collective studio in North London where designers share not only the space but also build on each other’s knowledge and skills.

In 2011 Jorre became the director of Arco, the design and development studio originally started over 100 years ago by one of his family members. He now has the task of preserving the much-loved Arco style, which still includes many of the best-selling pieces designed in the past, and is slowly being expanded and acquiring an even more distinctive signature.

During a recent visit to the Thonet factory in Germany, I met Jorre when the new collection was presented by their several designers. ‘Table 1060’ is designed by Jorre van Ast for Thonet. With a solid wood rectangular tabletop, rounded corners and V-shaped legs connected by a traverse this table has an overal minimalistic look. Next to the white ash version table 1060 will be available in walnut, with white legs.

Living Divani
Hall 11 hosted some of the biggest Italian brands and I totally fell in love with the modular sofa designed in 2008 by Pierro Lissoni for Living Divani. Way to big for my home but so cosy! Different seats can be placed next to each other in a geometrical configuration, but with irregular contours, totally my way of lounging.

I spotted lots of yellows, ocher, gold, velvet, and layered table combinations with marble table tops in different sizes and shapes all around with the booth of Italian brand Frigerio being a great example.
Gold, marble and different layered table combinations also at the stand of Danish and all time favourite &tradition see their new collection here
