For a while we had our hopes up to fly to Milan for a postponed Salone del Mobile this week. The rest is old news … it just didn’t happen. One of the things I love most during Milan design week is discovering new and unknown brands. Milan Design week is a combination of work and pleasure with scrolling through the city with the little group of friends I share an apartment with for years and meeting designers and fellow friends from all over Europe and abroad.
Last year I covered the exhibition of a Dutch brand at Masterly, The Dutch in Milan and had to skip my yearly day together with our international team at the actual Salone del Mobile. I regularly work on international fairs as a media journalist and for 2020 I was invited again to join and meet our different sponsors.
The good news, despite the Salone not happening at all in 2020, which is very rare and never happened, DDN decided to launch a digital DDN Safari Fest. Between June 15-29, a group of 10 international bloggers will cover the brands we were supposed to meet at the Salone online! Where do they find inspiration, moodboards, the process and different new collections as well from ‘The Salone’ as ‘Eurocucina’.
Starting today with Holly Becker from Decor8, we hope to introduce all the excellent participating Italian brands to you, many of which were also unknown to me, by showing our personal highlights! By following along each day you will get to know the brands and the different collections. My turn will be Thursday June 18 and I hope you will join me on my Instagram that day for a virtual tour and lets hope to see each other in real life again in 2021.
