A new dining table | HAY Result & Pyramid collection

Especially these days with a beautiful kitchen I am really happy with, I dream a lot of people around my kitchen table, having dinner, laughing, good conversations and drinking a glass of wine together. I really miss these moments and it has me made think of how important certain people are in my life and the joy of sharing meals around a table. I love my self designed all metal kitchen table, but lately I do think a table with a wooden top might be more inviting and cozy. I don’t know what I will decide but I am looking at different options.

While looking around I came across the HAY Pyramid Table again. The HAY Pyramid table is a particularly recognizable and iconic design, based on the designs of Wim Rietveld for Ahrend. Originally designed in the 1950s as part of the Pyramid collection, the table was not only practical, solid and well-designed, but above all very affordable and until today a sought-after collector’s item of true Dutch design.

Wim Rietveld, the son of the famous architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld was trained as a designer at the Royal Academy in The Hague. Friso Kramer & Wim Rietveld met while both working at Ahrend De Cirkel and together they designed the Result Chair. Just like the table base, a frame of sheet steel was used, an innovative piece of technology at the time, which helped shape a new way of producing.

HAY x Ahrend

During 3 days of Design, the annual design event in Copenhagen, I was first introduced to the HAY Result & Pyramid collectie in 2017. The table, including a beautiful bench, and Result chairs were showcased in a beautiful installation in the middle of the city.

In collaboration with Ahrend, Danish HAY has re-released the original design from the last century which then mainly was used in schools. A great way to make the Dutch design classic available to everyone and every home, find some more details at the end of the post. I really love installations, they always remind me of the best days of Design

The Pyramid 02 Table

The Pyramid table has that soft industrial look I love and is available in four different widths of 190, 250 or 300 centimeters and is always 85 centimeters deep and 74 centimeters high. The frame of the table has a black or beige powder coating and the table top is available in matt or transparent lacquered oak or smoked oak, with a matt lacquer layer and treated with oil.

The Result chair

I remember seeing this chair a lot when I was little The industrial HAY Result chair is 45.5 centimeters wide, 81 centimeters high and 48.5 centimeters deep. Just like the table, the base is available with a black or beige powder-coated base. The seat and backrest are made of various wood veneers and finishes, but for color lovers also in dark blue, moss green and brick red.
